Educational Visits
Please make sure you have read the educational visit policy attached below.
All year groups are expected to plan in visits and visitors as part of their topics each term in order to enrich the curriculum and bring it to life, to make it engaging for our pupils.
Off Site Visits
Before Visiting
- Research the place you wish to visit and how it will fit in with your topic
- Find out cost and date availability.
- Check it doesn’t clash with other events in school.
- Share this information with the EVC/headteacher so a decision can be made on whether to proceed with the trip.
- Visit the site in order to familiarise yourself with the place and collect any relevant information for risk assessments.
- Ask for any activity risk assessments from the venue.
- If the trip is within walking distance, walk the route to identify any hazards along the way.
- Ensure transport has been booked if the trip is not within walking distance.
Risk Assessments
A risk assessment must be completed on Evolve for any off site visit.
For most visits which can be signed off in school, the risk assessment must be completed and sent to the EVC at least 2 weeks before the visit date.
For residential visits, or visits which are near water or involve outdoor and adventurous activities, the risk assessment needs to be authorised by county. Risk assessments for these activities need to be completed 1 month in advance of the visit.
Make sure you have enough adults to meet visit ratios (for most visits 1:10 with a minimum of 2 members of staff for the first 10 children).
On the Day
- Ensure you carry a copy of the school ‘Critical Incident Plan’ in case of emergency (copies are located in the school office).
- Make sure a first aid kit is taken and staff members have mobile phones with them.
- If travelling on a bus ensure the sickness travel kit is taken.
- Talk the children through behaviour expectations and risk assessments.
- Make sure adults accompanying the trip are aware of the risk assessment.
- Make sure all children have a card with school contact details in case they get separated from the group.
